Ky ran back to her room and grabbed the school bag she had not yet used. She glanced at her schedule on the push board above her desk, grabbed the book, shoved it in the bag, and ran down the stairs.
"Hey wait!" Nos yelled at her in the lobby of the Guards' main center on campus or what all mundanes believe is a simple dormitory without temporary heavily guarded holding cells below it. "Before you leave, I need to tell you something important!"
Nos caught up to her in a flash as she was heading down the stairs toward the building she needed for her first class.
"Wait up!" Nos, with his tousled dark hair and a slightly disheveled uniform, looked both urgent and slightly out of breath. His eyes, however, were sharp and focused, hinting at the seriousness of what he needed to convey. Despite his hurried appearance, there was an air of authority about him that almost made Ky pause and listen.
"No leave me alone I am late for class!" Ky replied annoyed.
"I'll walk you there, we need to talk." Nos nicely offered.
"No thank you, I'm fine. Wait, why are you walking me there and why do we need to talk? Does the guard want you to be my babysitter?" Ky asked worriedly.
"What? No, we're working together? Why would they have me babysitting you?"
"It's none of your business! Yes, we both work for the guard, but that doesn't mean we're working together. Got it sucker!"
Nos' temper flared as he spoke, irritation laced in every word. "Stop with the childish name-calling," he snapped at Ky, his jaw clenching tight.
